My journey began in 2005, the day I walked into a global public speaking organization called Toastmasters, too scared to speak. My Toastmasters club literally changed my life and inspired me to do the same for others.
Not only did I overcome my fear of impromptu speaking, I went on to win more than 25 speaking competitions. I also won the Grand Slam title of Petaluma’s West Side Stories by wowing a crowd of over 400 people! I turned a lifelong struggle with Tourette Syndrome and learning disabilities into a unique platform as the “Tourette Tic Comedy Chick.”
In this December 2024 episode of Beyond the Vines, Amy Ahlers has a conversation with Cara Wasden, whose own struggles inspired her to help young learners build confidence, overcome the fear of speaking, and develop lifelong communication skills. Amy shares her personal connection to Cara’s work, as her own daughter has benefited from Cara’s empowering classes.
I became a professional public speaking coach in 2016. I’ve coached not only hundreds of middle schoolers but also corporate executives, award-winning speakers, and a past writer for NBC’s Tonight Show.
Everyone has a story the world needs to hear, and I am passionate in supporting you in telling yours.
I love working with people of all ages, and especially enjoy helping self-conscious teens find their voice and believe in themselves. I help them break down barriers, create structure from chaos, and shine!

In my class, public speaking is not about the fear, it's about the FUN! Students engage in playful activities and games that spark creativity. Class time is filled with sharing stories, spontaneity, and laughter!
Something I’ve learned from over 20 years of leading children on nature hikes at the Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen is that the best part of the experience is watching the kids have so much fun, while discovering the natural world around them.
My Speak and Be Heard class is all about this approach - we are learning about communication and social interaction, and we're having a blast doing it!
